The African student for liberty conference (ASFL) held its second annual 2 days’ conference in Africa which took place at the University of Ibadan- Trenchard hall, with more than 600 students within and outside Nigeria present. The event provided the opportunity to listen to inspiring speakers who believe in humanity and economic liberty.
The organisation is a nonprofit making organisation whose mission is to provide a unified, student- driven forum to support students and student’s organization dedicated to student liberty. It seeks to empower students to become leaders and agents of change in their community particularly within their community.
Among the top speakers present were Alexander Mc cobin, President SFL international (USA); Ms Ida. Nganga, outgoing director of leadership development and entrepreneurship in Africa for the global peace foundation, Calvin Burgess the founder and CEO of dominion group of companies, Dr. wale Okediran, Author of Tenants of the House . Japheth Omojuwa, Blogger and activist. The event was organised by Olumayowa Okediran- ASFL Programme Manager.
One of the speakers- Japheth Omojuwa caught everyone’s attention by starting his speech up with a dance. “Having prosperous citizens makes a prosperous nation however a prosperous nation does not guarantee prosperous citizens.” This is quite true! Once there are rich and wealthy people in a country, one cannot still refer to the country as being a poor country.
The conference ended with a social night which took place at the Student union building in which the speakers attended. It was quite an eventful day.
